AutroSafe 4 vs Autroprime comes down to scale and risk profile. AutroSafe 4 is Autronica’s high-end interactive fire and gas detection system, built for large, complex, or high-risk facilities — including a SIL2-certified offshore variant. Autroprime is the compact, cost-effective platform for small-to-medium buildings like offices, hotels, and museums. Both share Autronica’s SelfVerify self-testing technology and EN 54 certification.

AutroSafe 4: The High-End System for Complex and High-Risk Sites

AutroSafe 4 is Autronica’s flagship interactive fire and gas detection system, in service since 1999 across more than 15,000 installations worldwide — from hotels and cruise ships to drilling platforms. It runs on AutroNet, a redundant, high-speed Ethernet network that can be configured in a star or ring topology and supports up to 64 networked system units, all manageable and upgradable from a single point.

For offshore and other high-hazard industrial environments, Autronica offers AutroSafe 4 IFG (Integrated Fire & Gas), certified to IEC 61508 SIL2 — combining fire and gas detection in a single, redundant platform. This is the variant most relevant to Blue BMS’s oil & gas, petrochemical, and offshore customers.

Key AutroSafe 4 capabilities: SelfVerify daily self-testing, AutroKeeper loop redundancy, EN 54-2/4 + CPD (CE marking) + MED (Wheel marking) + FM approval per NFPA 72, compatibility with AutroXT extinguishant control and AutroVoice alarm.

Autroprime: Simplicity and Cost-Efficiency for Smaller Facilities

Autroprime takes the same detection technology Autronica built for high-end applications and packages it for small-to-medium facilities — daycare centers, museums, small hotels, and office buildings — at a fraction of the cost and complexity. It’s shipped factory-pre-configured: the panel auto-recognizes connected detectors and loop units, so the system is functional within minutes of power-up.

Each Autroprime main panel (BS-200 for land, BS-200M for maritime/SOLAS applications) supports up to 9 panels total on a shared RS-485 panel bus — combining repeater panels, information panels, fire brigade panels, and mimic drivers as needed. Despite its lower cost, Autroprime still carries SelfVerify self-testing and complies with EN 54, FM, and SOLAS requirements.

How to Choose Between AutroSafe 4 and Autroprime

  • Facility size and growth plans — if you expect to scale beyond a handful of panels or zones, AutroSafe 4’s 64-unit AutroNet capacity gives you headroom Autroprime’s 9-panel bus doesn’t.
  • Risk classification — offshore platforms, FPSOs, refineries, and other facilities requiring SIL-rated integrated fire & gas detection need AutroSafe 4 IFG; Autroprime has no SIL2 offshore variant.
  • Budget and complexity tolerance — for a single building with standard fire-only requirements, Autroprime delivers full compliance at materially lower install and lifecycle cost.
  • Network redundancy needs — AutroNet’s star/ring Ethernet topology gives AutroSafe 4 a higher degree of communication redundancy than Autroprime’s RS-485 bus.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between AutroSafe 4 and Autroprime?

AutroSafe 4 is Autronica’s high-end platform for large, complex, or high-risk facilities, running on a redundant Ethernet network (AutroNet) supporting up to 64 system units. Autroprime is a compact, lower-cost system for small-to-medium facilities, connecting up to 9 panels on a simpler RS-485 bus.

Is Autroprime suitable for offshore platforms?

Autroprime is built for small-to-medium land applications such as offices, hotels, and museums. For offshore platforms and other high-risk industrial environments, Autronica recommends AutroSafe 4 IFG, which carries IEC 61508 SIL2 certification.

Can AutroSafe 4 and Autroprime use the same detectors?

Yes. Both systems work with Autronica’s interactive detector range, including AutroGuard multicriteria detectors, and both can be paired with the AutroXT extinguishant control panel for integrated suppression.

How many panels can each system support?

AutroSafe 4 supports up to 64 networked system units over AutroNet. Autroprime supports one main panel plus up to 8 additional panels — a maximum of 9 — on a shared RS-485 panel bus.

Can I upgrade from Autroprime to AutroSafe 4?

There’s no direct field upgrade path, since the two platforms use different network architectures. If a facility outgrows Autroprime, the typical route is a new, properly sized AutroSafe 4 installation. Blue BMS can assess your current system and plan the transition.
